Northern Bucktail - Full

These bucktails come in two sizes. The medium size bucktails run up to 12 inches in length and large is anything greater than 12 inches. Fibre length runs up to 3.5 inches and some medium sized tails can have long fibres but generally this fibre is shorter. If you have a special requirement for fibre length, let us know and we will show you what we have to offer. We will always provide you with the best that we can if you're ordering online and have no problem taking photos to show you just what you will be getting or what we have available to meet your needs.

Large bucktail seems to be getting harder to source and the cost has increased from our suppliers, but we usually have a good selection in stock. Lately we've seen a lot of bucktails packaged as 'large' that are barely 10 inches in length.

Consider fibre density when you are purchasing bucktail. Often times medium bucktails will have finer hair diameter which means that it won't flair as much so might match your needs more than a larger tail that has longer fibres.  These fine  fibred tails are perfect for tying beach Clousers for coho.

Both sizes are cleaned, de-boned and grease free and if dyed use a colour-fast dyeing process so they don't bleed when wet. A must have item for BC waters. Along with Clousers we tie Deceivers some of our steelhead flies, and bull and cutthroat trout streamers with these bucktails.
